Washable Markers

Today I made it on time to figure drawing (yay me) but when i got there i quickly realized that I forgot my drawing pad. I was gonna go back home but I had a really good parking and I was early enough that I could get a good seat too. It was a good think that I was planning on doing some water color paintings today so I had that with me. Lol I had an old sketch book in my back seat and I found an empty page to do my 2 mins on. Lucky me =)
2 mins

I used Crayola Washable Markers today for the watercolors. It was fun, and I got really rich colors.

These are all 25 mins.
Johnathan let me use his watercolor pencils for this one. Very Very fun, i like the textures that I got and the cross hatching is still visable after putting the brush to it. I might get some.

Breakfast doodle

Crayola washable markers are fun =) While im eating breakfast I did this drawing. Took about 4 breakfastes. One of them is an onion and the other is a chew toy with half a plastic egg on it.

I went to figure drawing today and our model was a very beautiful woman that was 9 months pregnant. It was really fun to draw her and just be drawing again.

Through my funk came inspiration to do this, a form of meditation i suppose. I have not done a stop motion animation since the 4th grade. I finally felt productive, creative and I stuck to my goal and vision today.

Out of the fog and back on a cloud, even for just a moment or two it is a great reminder of myself.

Canyon Painting

Painted this last night. Black and White Acrylic on 7" x 11" Bristol Board. I did not use a reference for this painting. I used my mental library to compose this painting. Its the first time that I have really painted anything in Acrylics so I learned alot about that medium. I learned a little more about controling how much water I use and how dark they become when they are dry. This is the first time I painted clouds. I spend alot of time admiring them but I still need to work on getting them more whispy. I didn't figure out how to blur acrylics just yet. I can't blend them on canvas like I did with oils, I have to mix my values before I put them down. Its a great experience. I have been observing the mountains for a LONG while and the trees, that would be my next challenge. Trees... lol. Hope you like my painting =)

Furrrday (friday)

On friday I went to figure drawing again. I was so happy to be back. We had a GREAT model, his name was Christopher. He is an actor and did really great poses. Exspecially his hands, they reminded me of the old masters models. They were so strong but delicate and graceful and he held them with a purpose. He was great! I let him know how much I enjoyed drawing his two min poses (on the right) he repied "did you like the one where I was a tree?" =D it was funny. He was very animated and did an excellent job and he had just enough body definition and undefinition that when the light hit his body it fell on him really nicely. If he posed for a painting ID PAINT HIM! He was a haole with very defined facial features, one of a person who uses their face muscles alot. LOVED IT! The down side to fridays drawing was that the air conditioning wasnt working so it was really hot in the room. I felt bad for the model, he had that hot spotlight on him the whole time. By the end of the standing or sitting 25 min poses he would be dripping with sweat! Poor guy...

The other drawing I did was a 25 min pose, I focused on his chest and worked to understand his anatomy and protray it on to the paper. The other drawing that next the the chest drawing was also a 25 min pose, I really tried to concentrate on the gesture of his body, and also the anatomy of his back. Where the sholderblade is, how the back muscles connected to, all that good stuff.
I did two water color paintings. They are really helpful to me because I have to be quick to see the lines of his body so I can spend more time on the values that I see that define the muscles. Its like a quick speed painting. I concentrated on his chest and abs again on this painting.

On the painting to the right I messed it up a bit, I didn't start my drawing out too well so it got jacked along the way. For one, the foreshorteing of the arm is WAYYY off. 2) the values do not describe the form very well... that painting is an eww... but ima post it any way.

Cherry Blossoms

I finished this a week ago, I didnt want to post it till I gave it to my co-worker. I gave it to her on sunday so its safe to post it now. I used a reference image for this, I did the background with brushes and i did the foreground Cherry Blossoms with a pallet knife. It gave it a great effect. This the first painting that I have done like this. It was so much fun. My co-worker had to wait a very long time for this painting but I finally got it done for her. She said that she liked it =)

Today I worked on the underpainting for one of my friends painting, and I put out too much Burn Umber so I started another painting on another canvas. I did a pallete knife painting of the sun setting ont he water. It was lots of fun and I didn't get as messy as I usually do while painting with a pallet knife. I used colors that I am not used to today. I actually won the paints that I used today. =)

I took this photograph of the sunset in Lahaina during the sunset. I took about 15-20 pix of the sunset and out of those pictures I got this one that really stood out to me. Its called "Eskape" I like how there are warm yellows oranges from the sun and in imediate contrast there are the blues in the shadows of the clouds. Its awesome. I also really like that on the right side there is a window to a part of the sky that is far off into the distance and still retains its light blue color and only slightly tinted by the setting sun.

I hope you enjoy both images.

I painted this pic today. I found a picture in the news paper yesterday that was sitting on the kitchen counter that started this idea. This painting is called "Dust."

The story behind this paintngs is about expecting the unexpected unexpectedly. Its based on the idea of prepareing for big events all you can then when you get out there you're on an alien planet with issues that weren't mentioned to you or part of the preperation. You adapt or turn to dust... I've been dusted a couple of times. =)

Its always a mystirious force that dusts me. This painting can be inturpred by the viewer. You can put your own demon on the right, then you can put yourself in the soldiers shoes and choose... Dust or Adapt.

I just finished this....

I just finished this digital painting. I started it in graphite and paper, scanned it into the computer and finished it in PhotoshopCS3. Its a little dark, if you feel uncomfortable or find yourself holding your breath while looking at this image... I did my job. =) Enjoy.

A crazy Day

Today was a pretty crazy day, I thought I was going to have the day off but there was a crisis at work and they needed my assistance. It was a really busy morning. Lets see yesterday I worked on this fisherman for Lahaina Fish Co. The owner wanted to use him but didnt have the actual file of the graphic so he took a pic of it with his iPhone and sent it to us and I took it into one of my programs and redrew and recolored him. =)
After work my mom had a hair appointment so while I was waiting for her I drew this gal here from a magazine. It was reall fun, she is mostly black Ink and I used some of my markers that I bought a while back to splash some color into her. I got luck today too, my aunty who is my hairdresser also had some time to cut my hair as well =) I scored, I got to draw today and get a hair cut =) I was really happy bout that.
Today I set up my camera in my room and took some selfportraits. I didn't have the best lighting equiptment, just some dim can lights and a reading lamp. I think for the pic that I did get it turned out pretty well, I got some good lights and darks and midtones in there, the cast shadow looks great but the shadow on my face is weird/distracting. I also experiemnted with ISO, this image was taken with ISO80. I think that I am starting to figure out what each ISO does. I'm just gonna practice more. It was really fun, mostly because I had to guestimate where to stand and how to look. I'm pretty self concious when it comes to self portraits but because I'm my own free model I'm going to take advantage of it =) I hope you enjoy it =)

what I did this Summer

This is a video of what I did this summer. I will soon post my actual works from the Atelier.

Atelier Hawai'i from UHMagazine on Vimeo.

the Numbers and Stapler

Today was another work day and Iv been struggling with Artistic withdrawls. Its quite irratating. Today I was kinda spent on using my left brain. In the middle of all the numbers and paper work I had no choice but to draw a little something to help my head rebalance its self. I quickly ripped the crappy adding machine tape that had for the 15th time the wrong numbers on it flipped it over and drew the damn stapler. It did relieve me a bit, it was fun to do a random drawing. Who would of thought that a stapler would be so much fun! lol. This little drawing counts to my "one drawing a day" promise I made to myself. I was thinking of drawing the stapler remover but that thing hasn't really been nice to me so it didn't deserve to be drawn, or put on my blog. It has some kinda pact with the staples to give me a hard time. ARG... After my quick little drawing and some goofing around and giggles i went back to work and my numbers matched up =) Just had to balance my head out first before my numbers could balance out. =)

My Friday

Today was a pretty busy/relaxed day. I got to go to figure drawing. That is always a plus, iv been looking forward to it all week. Since i have been working hard in the yard this past week I really try to draw or edit pictures in the evening when i can, but sometimes I'm too exhausted to do anything. But this morning I was brand New! =) Went to figure drawing and I worked in water color for 3 poses. Its so much fun and it helps me see the general shapes, it also forces me to observe and problems solve quicker. They are really rough but I think that i am improving... or @ least i hope I am. =D
~25 min Pose 1~
~25 min Pose 2~
~25 min Pose 3~
(the R.leg came out good on this one i think but the forshortening is pretty off...its not very believeable.)

My cousins birthday is tomorrow, so i drew and framed this for him. I hope he likes it.

Beach Night Photos

These are some of the pics I took when I had dinner at The Ocean House Restaurant. These are the only two that I got to work on tonight. I hope that you like them. Enjoy =)

Today was a really busy day @ work. It started out kinda crappy but it got better as the day went on. The past couple of days since I got back and became totally inspired from Lahaina I've been thinking about how I want my own studio/work space because I have been working in my room which isn't that big. My room had a 3/4 keyboard piano, bed, a bulky dresser, 1 book shelf, easel, music stand, and 2 chairs (one for painting and one for piano). Well today I had the urge to clean out my room, all the piano stuff is gone and i have so much more room! I'm really thinking bout getting my bed out of there and getting a fold up futon =) so i can fold it up and step back more to look at my current paintings, but thats for later. Anyway, I though it was funny how after I cleaned my room with no intention of making a "studio" for myself but it really worked out well in that sense. Yay for me=) The next step would be, that clunky rediculous drawer and AC lol =)

More Sketches

The last day i cruized out with daniel we did sketches of eachother. It was realy fun. Hope you enjoy them =)

I sketched this out while waiting for the plane to go to lahaina. =) I hope that I get around to finishing this one soon. she looks funny, it looks like she doesnt have a torso right now. Ima try and fix that... or not, cuz maybe she doesn't have a torso. =) Think about that one!
